Join the final concert of the first Music Composition Competition for the wind orchestras „MCC Palanga 2020“.
The closing concert will feature works by seven finalists, plus interviews with the composers.
Finalists of the competition were chosen from a high quality field of entrants with the winners as well as incentive prizes chosen by the international jury panel chaired by the composer Jan de Haan (Netherlands) and including the composers Oliver Waespi (Switzerland) and Kazys Daugėla (Lithuania).
MCC Palanga 2020 is dedicated to an important date for the whole Lithuanian nation. March 30th 2021 marked 100th anniversary of the return of the Palanga resort and part of the Baltic coast belonging to Latvia to Lithuania.
The theme of the MCC 2020 was 'legends and stories of Palanga' with Lithuanian composers asked to write original wind band compositions of high artistic and educational merit that would enrich the repertoire.
It is gratifying that Lithuanian composers actively responded to this call and a total of 12 applications were submitted for four categories of the MCC Palanga 2020 competition.
The works of each category - from the lowest A to the highest D - differ in their complexity, duration and instrumentation.
A total of € 6,500 in prize money was awarded to the winners of the competition's main prizes and incentive prizes.
The pieces will be performed by the professional Palanga City Wind Orchestra „Palangos Orkestras“, conducted by the artistic director and chief conductor Vygantas Rekašius.
You will hear the premiere of seven new works for wind orchestras:
- „Vaidilutės šokis“ (Dance of the Priestess) by Rimvydas Stanaitis;
- „Milžino Naglio kelionė“ (Journey of Naglis the Giant) by Rapolas Šileikis;
