Eglė the Serpent Queen comes to life on the dance stage

Eglė the Serpent Queen is preparing for the revival this summer: Klaipėda State Musical Theater invites to the contemporary interpretation of Eduardas Balsys' ballet "The Eglė Serpent Queen" at Palanga Concert Hall on August 16 and 17.
The dance performance is based on the music of Eduardas Balsys' ballet "Egle the Serpent Queen" by choreographer Martynas Rimeikis. He already has two Golden Stage Crosses in his collection: he was awarded the prize for the ballet Everywhere We Were, and in 2018 - for the choreography of the ballet "Process".
Conductor Modestas Barkauskas will become the music director of "The Queen of the Egret Serpents", 2017. won the III prize in the prestigious International Fitelberg Conductors Competition in Poland. Balsys highlighted the mythological beginnings of the tale and intensively developed the drama of the human feelings of the main characters of the tale Eglė and Žilvinas. Ballet score is characterized by colorful instrumentation, striking contrasts of moods, development of folk music motifs.
Klaipeda State Musical Theater this year celebrates the anniversary of composer E. Balsis (1919-1984) who spent his youth in Klaipėda. At the beginning of the year, a solemn concert of E. Balsys symphonic music took place in the Klaipėda Faculty Hall of LMTA. In summer, the Eglė the Serpent Queen will be waiting for the audience in Palanga Concert Hall, and in the autumn the premiere of the only opera "Journey to Tilsit" created by E. Balsys will be held at Klaipėda Fishermen's Palace.
